Work Experience

Present~1997

Founder and President of Purity Co., Ltd., which provides a variety of services, among them:

2003~1977

Chief Instructor at ELEC, the English Language Education Council, Inc. (Eigo Kyouiku Kyogika) a non-profit organization chartered by the Japanese Ministry of Education. I am responsible for syllabus design, curriculum development and the creation of original teaching materials.

Present~1982

Senior Consultant, Yazaki Corporation (Yazaki Sogyo K.K.).

My areas of responsibility include:

  • World Wide Web page author and Web Administrator for the Yazaki Group
  • Speech writing and correspondence for the president, vice-president, directors and executive staff.
  • Proofreading, translation and editing of international business correspondences, technical specifications, documents and operation manuals.
  • Operation and maintenance of the office computers and computer network.
  • Preparation and narration of promotional and instructional videos and presentations for Ford, General Motors, Saab, Volvo and others.
  • Preparation of in-house English teaching curriculum and materials.
  • Various editorial and desktop publishing tasks, among them: product pamphlets, brochures and catalogues, the Yazaki News in-house newsletter, corporate profile, advertising and promotional material.

Consultant on educational materials for the Kumon Institute of Education. My work for the Educational Research Center includes: research, compilation, and authoring of materials for teaching English conversation and speed reading skills, and for teaching Japanese to speakers of other languages.

Present~1980

Instructor at the Joto Medical Association where I teach conversational and medical English classes to physicians.

Present~1985

Translator, proofreader and copywriter for Yomiuri Kokoku, Dentsu, Japan Automotive News, Kodansha, among others.

Narrator and author of promotional and instructional videos and slide presentations.

Present~1984

Translator and editor for the Japanese Red Cross Medical Center (Nisseki Iriyo Center). On a voluntary basis, I translate and edit symposium papers for physicians; additionally, I translate educational pamphlets and materials, which are distributed to the public by the Department of Pediatric Health.

1988~84

Kabuki commentator for the English language earphone guide at the Kabuki-za Theater. Each month commentators prepare a narration describing the plot and background for each play on the program. This narration is recorded and then broadcast during the performance for the benefit of the non-Japanese speaking audience.

1983~80

Editor and proofreader for Canon Corporation (Canon K.K.), Musashi-Kosugi, Tokyo facility.

1980

Co-author of Strategic English for Osaka Educational Press (Osaka Kyoiku Tosho K.K.). This textbook is designed to help candidates prepare for company entrance examinations in English.

1978~77

Private Tutor in English to the Ambassador of El Salvador.
